Nine days of so-called social distancing. It’s getting hard to tell if I feel any symptoms of the virus, or if stale air in the house, occupied by seven people, is contributing to my sore throat and feeling of tightness in my chest. I tried going outside for a few minutes today, but necessity called me back in. Sigh.

Endangered Species: older men with underlying conditions

Is it accurate to say we are failing in this fight against this virus? Most people say ‘it’s too soon to tell’. Well, I disagree. It’s clear from the examples of Italy, Iran and yes, even China, we are failing in this fight. This will be a pandemic on the scale of the 1918 influenza outbreak. I had a little bird..his name was Enza..I opened up the window and in flew Enza. Only, instead of influenza, it’s a coronavirus that is on the loose and killing people. If you’re an elderly male with underlying issues, kill your ass goodbye. If you’re a child under the age of 10, you might not even show any symptoms. That’s quite a range, and some have even begun to talk of herding..let younger people get it and become immune, and only protect the most vulnerable in the population. That may sound good in theory, but I’d say it would be nearly impossible to implement in reality.

So we wait and stay in the house and watch old movies and put 500 piece jigsaw puzzles together. Then we watch the Dow drop another thousand points, precisely because nobody has faith in our institutions any more. Anthony Fauci is doing his level best, but he’s a lone voice in a wilderness of chicken little and the barnyard. Where’s the fox, waiting to benefit from all this craziness?

I am going to assume things will work out, and there will be great opportunities to make money in the stock market when this thing is over. I have nothing to lose by making these preparations. If the market, and therefore the country, is totally destroyed, then I’m probably dead anyway, so what will I care? At least I can keep buggering on (KBOing, per Winston C), and hope it all works out. Then I’ll take my $1,200 check the government is agwana send me (ha ha) and be prepared to invest it in good quality stocks when the time is right.

Boundless optimism

I can dream, can’t I?
