{"id":1581,"date":"2013-11-27T09:38:44","date_gmt":"2013-11-27T14:38:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.planetsusan.org\/?p=1581"},"modified":"2013-11-27T09:38:44","modified_gmt":"2013-11-27T14:38:44","slug":"grateful-for","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.planetsusan.org\/?p=1581","title":{"rendered":"Grateful for &#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and the first two steps are complete: development of the menu with the accompanying shopping.\u00a0 Three bottles of wine (two whites and a red) and a six pack of Fat Tire beer&#8230;oh, and the food.\u00a0 I already sampled the red before finishing cooking chili last night, so the prostaglandin headache was already started.\u00a0 Say three times: don&#8217;t drink red wine on an empty stomach.\u00a0 It will give you a lousy headache&#8230;oh, yea.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the menu:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Pumpkin Soup<\/li>\n<li>Endive and Romaine Salad with homemade Caesar dressing<\/li>\n<li>Prime Rib Roast on the charcoal smoker<\/li>\n<li>Pork Roast cooked on the smoker<\/li>\n<li>Roast Duck from the oven<\/li>\n<li>Mashed Potato Casserole<\/li>\n<li>Stuffing with Mushrooms and Onions<\/li>\n<li>Braised Brussels Sprouts<\/li>\n<li>Home made cranberry and pomegranate sauce with orange<\/li>\n<li>Pumpkin Pie or cherry cobbler with Haagen Daas vanilla bean ice cream<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Notice no turkey?\u00a0 Trying to avoid tryptaphan poisoning.\u00a0 Not sure how many guests &#8211; somewhere between 11 and 13&#8230;so maybe everyone can sit around the same table. Much better than buffet and random seating.<\/p>\n<p>Plan to play charades after sufficient alcohol is consumed to loosen inhibitions&#8230;should be fun.<\/p>\n<p>I am grateful for my family, first and foremost.\u00a0 Anyone who puts career or money before family is a fool, and I feel sorry for them.\u00a0 Children, grandchildren&#8230;they are what make life a blessing.<\/p>\n<p>I am grateful my son is finally going to get his military retirement, after all these years of chasing the government and finally bringing the VA to ground.
